There's Gotta Be More To Life Than This!

Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
— 1 Corinthians 3:12-15

Have you ever thought to yourself, “There’s gotta be more to life than this!” If you feel like your life is being wasted away, it’s time to evaluate why. Having feelings of emptiness is a sure sign something is wrong. Maybe your focus needs to recalibrate. Maybe you’re going through a temporary funk. Maybe, like it was with me, it’s God calling you to something new.

After graduating High School I wanted nothing to do with the ministry. I had a heart for the things of God but I thought that was normal. So, I went to school to become a rich interior designer. It wasn't more than six weeks into the year when those thoughts began to stir within me. “What am I doing? Is this really what I want to be doing for the rest of my life? There’s gotta be more to life than this!”

I tried drowning it out with the fact that I had already committed for the year but those thoughts and feelings of uselessness were too much to ignore. I began to pray and fast, asking God for direction. By the second semester, I was checking into Bible School. I didn't even finish the year! The Bible says in Romans 12:2, “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” The pattern the world has for you is totally different from what God has for you. Have you asked God to lead you?

Most people will plan their whole life (who they marry, where they’ll live, what they’ll do) without asking God for His approval. I didn't ask God what His plan for my life was, I just pursued what the world's standard of success was. Don’t be influenced by what everyone does, be influenced by the Spirit of God. If you call on Him, He will fulfill your purpose (Psalm 57:2) and let me tell you, there is nothing like being smack dab in the middle of God’s will for your life.

When you link up with God, your purpose will become established. You might make the world’s best donuts but when you link it up with the Kingdom of God, a deep sense of purpose becomes yours. You’re no longer making the world’s best donuts. Those donuts are funding outreaches, orphanages, feeding the poor and bringing eternal impact on the world! See how different your outlook will be?!

Don’t let another year go by where you have little or no impact on the people around you. Don't get to heaven and present hay or straw. Don't go on another day purpose-less. You’re here to bring change. You’re here to lead those going to hell into God’s saving grace. You’re here to complete a divine purpose. Do you believe it? Then, turn it around today!
