INQUIRE & REQUIRE

I WILL bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.4I sought (inquired of) the Lord and required Him [of necessity and on the authority of His Word], and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
-Psalm 34:1-4

One of my favorite ways to study the Bible is using the Amplified Bible. Because each language differs from word to word, a lot can be lost in translation. The Amplified Bible however will elaborate each word to its original meaning in order to capture the true essence of the word. Which brings me to Psalm 34:4.

Other translations read it like this “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” So you’d vaguely take from this passage “Pray in order for God to deliver you from all fear.” But it’s deeper than that! The Amplified Bible says “ I sought (inquired of) the Lord and required Him [of necessity and on the authority of the His Word], and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” You see that?

In order for God to truly deliver you from all of your fears. You must INQURE and REQUIRE.  You must pray, yes, that’s what it means to inquire about something, to put in a request. But you must also REQUIRE. Can you really require God to do anything? YES! The Bible says of necessity and on the authority of His Word. So if ever you’re in need of something, take God at His word and require Him to move on your behalf.

“If it be your will” is the lazy American prayer. Find His will for every circumstance in your life and require for that power found in His Word to move on your behalf. Your life, will never be that same!
