Who's leading you?

Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
— Matthew 10:37-39

Did you know you have a spiritual leader in your life right now? Every human being on this planet has the desire to worship someone or something. It’s something that’s written in our DNA because we’re FIRST spirit beings. It may look different one from another, but make no mistake about it, it’s worship.

People will walk four miles from a parking lot, stay out in the freezing cold rain, and purchase a three hundred and fifty dollar jersey. Fanaticism? Maybe. Worship? Definitely. Some people book concert tickets a year in advance. They’ll buy every album, every t-shirt and everything the band would endorse. When they get to the concert, a deafening scream goes forth for the next hour and a half. Tears fall from the faces of the crowd with hands lifted up. WORSHIP. If the decisions made in your life are influenced (even a little) by the things of this world, you’re being led by them!

The Bible says in Matthew 10:37-38, “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” Doesn't that seem a little harsh? Absolutely not. The first commandment in Deuteronomy 6:5 is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” The love you have for God should GREATLY outweigh the love you have for anyone or thing.

In putting God first, we begin to understand what love is. The way a person loves another human being will always be flawed if they don't have a greater love for God. Why? Because it’s conditional. It changes from day to day or the mood you’re in. If, however, the love you have for people was the direct reflection of the love you have for God, this world would be a lot less selfish, hateful and intolerant. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” True love is born when we reciprocate the love God has for us.

So who are you listening to? Who are the speaking influences in your life? Is it your mom, dad, son or daughter? Have you been at the same church with no power because your kid is deacon there? Is the job you’re working at something to please your parents or the gift God has laid on the inside of you?

Matthew 7:16 says, “By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” What is the fruit of those who are influencing your life? Are the Godly? Are they happy? Do they have success? Would you take financial advice from a homeless person? Would you take relationship advice from someone who's on their third marriage?

Choose wisely who the voices of influence in your life are. Be FIRST directed of God. Hold no relationship, thing or person ABOVE HIM. When you Seek first God and His righteousness, ALL THING will be given to you (Matt. 6:33). All things mean, joy, peace, love, happiness, your heart's desire, ALL THINGS!
