If the only source of “food” you feed your spirit comes from a worship CD, you have yourself a problem. After traveling to different places outside of North America, I encountered the same observation. The churches that were thriving had their emphasis on the preaching of the Word of God.
Music is important and necessary but it in no way takes the place of the preaching of God’s Word. In our generation, we see a service with a heavy worship set and little Word. Unfortunately, it only produces starving Christians. They say all the things a Christian should say. They lift up their hands and worship the way Christians should worship but behind the scenes live no different than any unsaved person. When temptation comes, they succumb to it. When an attack comes, they backslide. Why? NO WORD.
If you choose a church only because it has good music, you’re eating a salad. You have enough to sustain you every now and again, but when the devil comes, you’ll have no strength to fight him. Can you imagine eating a salad twice a week?! You’ll certainly faint in the day of adversity! Proverbs 24:10 says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” The way to get strength is through God’s Word. Psalm 119:28 says, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” Your strength comes from KNOWING what the Bible says.
The Word is the meat you eat to sustain your faith. You must hunger for it. You have to ingest it every day to build up your spirit man. Allow it to transform your life! Don’t be a Salad Christian, be Meat Christian. Live holy and blamelessly (2 Peter 3:11) because Jesus is coming back very VERY soon.
