Oppression Vs. Possession

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
— Acts 10:38

Oppression and possession are two different things. A Christian can never be possessed but they can be oppressed. For someone to be possessed they must willingly give control to a demonic spirit. There’s always an entrance for a devil to come in and take possession over a person. No devil has the power (1 John 3:8) to move a pencil let alone hijack a person's body, there must be an entrance of some sort.

Oppression, however, seems to be running rampant in the body of Jesus Christ. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines oppression as “to crush or burden by abuse of power or authority” or “to burden spiritually or mentally :  weigh heavily upon”. This method the devil has is most successful in defeating Believers today.

The devil wants to weigh you down, to burden you with all the cares of this world. He wants you to lose sleep over your children’s well being. He wants you to be depressed about your life and marriage. He wants to crush your walk with the Lord. Will you allow him to continue ravaging your life?

That definition says oppression is an abuse of power or authority. So who gives the devil authority to come in and beat us down? (This may not be the answer you’re looking for…) It’s not your mom, it’s not your dad, it ain’t the way you were raised or the fact that you were an orphan. It’s not because your mom left you for dead or the fact that your marriage was torn apart. The only person who can empower the devil is YOU! The Bible says in Hosea “My people perish for lack of knowledge”. Whether knowingly or merely because you were never taught on it, you are the one who opens the door when the devil knocks. You are the one who allows that stupid devil to come in and make a home.

The majority of people don’t want to be oppressed, they want it gone! But it won’t go anywhere until you tell it to go. The Bible says in Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

You have all the power you need to stop that dumb devil from further damage. Re-read Acts 10:38. The SAME Spirit that was on Jesus Christ who went about doing good and healing ALL who were OPPRESSED of the devil dwells in you! You have the power through God’s Word and the Blood of Jesus to destroy every oppression in your life. Make up your mind right now that you won’t go on another day giving up your authority and handing it off to the devil. This Thanksgiving day will be the best you’ve ever had. The peace of God will overflow in your life. Rest will be yours. Unspeakable joy will be your new normal. Unstoppable hope will be with you when you wake up. People won’t recognize you! Oppression-free life belongs to you. Walk in it, enjoy it. In Jesus name!
