Labor For Rest

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
— Hebrews 4:11

What kind of sense does that make to the natural mind? To labor means to toil, to sweat, to exert energy—quite the opposite of resting. This is one secret a champion Christian keeps. You don’t study when the attack happens, you build yourself up before. You don't pray and fast when all hell breaks loose, you do it well before the attack!

What kind of a war would you win with no strategy, preparation or ammunition? The Bible says, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). To stay alert means to stay awake. Slap yourself in the face if you have to! Don’t let the business or peace and quite of your life lull you to sleep. You have an enemy. He wants to kill you and go after your family. If you knew how disgusting, how evil and how badly the devil wants to harm you, you wouldn't be a passive person. You wouldn't go a day without praying or reading the Word.

Live with purpose! Live knowing theres an attack looming. Be prepared at any cost. Anoint the heads of your children. Do the same for you and your spouse. Declare the goodness and promises of God. Lift up your hands and praise God for waking you up in the morning!

Some of us have tendency to build relationships that take very little effort or require very little time spent with the person. That’s not GOD. You may have a few friends that,“you pick up where you left off” but God is a jealous God. He wants you to spend time with Him. He loves you passionately! He wants to speak to you about things to come. He doesn't want you going through a surprise attack. Take time to talk to Him today! Ask Him about the things concerning your life. Talk to Him about your dreams and desires. He’s waiting for you!
