What To Do When The Storm Comes

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

— Matt. 7:24-27

As we enter the “Hurricane season” I want you to remember the importance of building your house on the rock of God’s Word. Each and every one of us are not exempt from attack, but we are guaranteed victory. In fact we’re guaranteed overwhelming victory! Romans 8:37 says, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

When problems arise, your foundation will be put to the test. Will it crack under pressure? Will it dismantle through the storm? The only fight you have to fight in life is the GOOD fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12). Why is it call the “good fight”? Because a good fight is the one you win! Psalm 18:2 declares, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” God is the rock you build your life upon. In John 1:1 The Word says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” God is the Rock and the Rock is His Word.

You must have enough Word on the inside of you to rise against the storms of life. There must be a surplus of the Bible in order for you to drown out the thoughts that run contrary to goodness and mercy (Psalm 23:6). If you find yourself in a place of overwhelming defeat, I want you to read the next few scriptures. Declare them over your life and situation. GET MAD about the frustration. Get A HOLY ANGER about this attack. Then praise God for taking you through to the other side! Remember, though you WALK THROUGH the valley of the Shadow of Death, YOU WILL FEAR NO EVIL! (Psalm 23:4) WALK THROUGH WITH CONFIDENCE!

Deut. 20:4 - For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.

1 Cor. 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

John 16:33 - “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Eph. 6:13 - Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Isaiah 40:29 - He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:31 - but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 28:7-8 - The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

2 Chronicles 20 - Read it!
